The driver was seriously injured in the crash, FHP troopers said. They said alcohol was not a factor in the crash.

CLEARWATER – A Clearwater man died Monday (Feb. 4) when he was hit by an SUV while he was walking on a sidewalk, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Robert Kirby Parker, 67, of Clearwater, died at the scene. Laurie Bain Parker, 55, of Clearwater, who was walking with Mr. Parker, suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

Gregory Robert Gleason, 24, of Clearwater, the driver, was taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg in serious condition.

The crash happened about 5:02 p.m. on Feaather Sound Drive east of Vizcaya Drive in the unincorporated Clearwater area of Pinellas County.

Troopers said Gleason was driving a 2017 Jeep Patriot west on Feather Sound Drive when he failed to negotiate a curve. The Jeep left the road, traveled onto an adjacent sidewalk where it hit both pedestrians before continuing into a ditch and colliding with a concrete retaining wall.

Troopers said alcohol was not a factor in the crash. Charges are pending.
