HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A woman was seriously injured Tuesday (Aug. 29) when she was struck by a tractor-trailer while walking in I-75, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Michelle Lynn Collins, 38, of St. Petersburg, was airlifted to Tampa General Hospital with critical, life-threatening injuries.

Troopers said the crash happened about 3:35 a.m. on southbound I-75 near the 272 milepost. The woman was walking in the center lane when she was struck by a tractor-trailer driven by Gerald Davis, 47, of Quitman, GA. Troopers said it is unclear why she was walking in the lane. Alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the crash.

The crash closed portions of I-75 until 8:30 a.m.
