Pedestrian, Hit by Tampa City Truck, Dies

Officers are investigating to determine what contributed to the crash, the Tampa Police Department said.

TAMPA – A Tampa woman died Tuesday (June 26) of injuries she received when hit by a city of Tampa solid waste vehicle, the Tampa Police Department said.

Marcia Woodside Rivers, 65, died at the scene. Police said today (June 27) that she was not wearing earbuds.

The crash happened about 9:14 a.m. on Davis Boulevard at Aegean Drive on Davis Islands. Police said they received a call that a pedestrian had been hit by a truck. When they arrived on scene they found Ms. Rivers deceased. She had been struck by a city of Tampa solid waste vehicle driven by Jarvis Mercer, 49, of Brandon. Officers said they are investigating to determine what factors contributed to the crash.

Tampa police said today that they have determined that Mercer will not face criminal charges in the crash. He is expected to face a civil traffic citation involving a death. Detectives are still investigating to
determine what citation would be appropriate given the facts of the case.
