Pedestrian, Two Dogs Die in Largo Traffic Crash

Largo police say they believe the man had been drinking.

LARGO – A man and two dogs he was walking died when they were hit by a car while crossing a street, the Largo Police Department said.

Thomas Lee Mason, 56, was walking his roommate’s dogs at the time of the crash. Both dogs, ages 10 and 15, were also killed. All died at the scene.

Police said the crash happened about 9:12 p.m. Wednesday (March 29) on 66th Street N near 126th Avenue. A 2011 Subaru drive by Craig Johnson, 59, was headed north on 66th when it hit Mr. Mason and the dogs. Mr. Mason was not in a marked crosswalk. Police said Mr. Mason appeared to have been drinking. This investigation is on-going, but officers said no criminal charges are expected against the driver.
