Pedestrian Dies in St. Petersburg Crash

The driver left the scene but called officers later, the St. Petersburg Police Department said.

ST. PETERSBURG – A pedestrian died Monday (Jan. 9) when he was struck by a car while crossing a street, St. Petersburg police said.

Police are withholding the name of the 63-year-old man until his next of kin are notified. He died at the scene.

The crash happened about 10 p.m. when a 2008 Toyota Prius driven by Ussouf Ristemov, 29, hit the man who was walking across Fourth Street N in the 4200 block, officers said. The front of the Prius struck the pedestrian, throwing him to the roadway.

Ristemov left the scene, officers said, but notified them afterwards of his whereabouts.  The investigation is still ongoing. Police ask anyone who has information about the crash to call the department at (727) 893-7780.
