Pedestrian Dies in St. Pete Crash

The driver was unable to stop or swerve, the St. Petersburg Police Department said.

ST. PETERSBURG – A pedestrian died Wednesday (Feb. 7) night in a traffic crash on 34th Street N, the St. Petersburg Police Department said.

Reginald William Pittman, 47, died at the scene.

The crash happened about 9:50 p.m. on 34th Street N. A 2009 Honda Accord driven by Aaron Williams, 22, was southbound on 34th when Mr. Pittman stepped directly into the path of his car. Street North.

Williams was unable to stop or swerve because of other southbound traffic and hit Mr. Pittman with the front of his vehicle, officers said. Mr. Pittman was thrown up onto and then over Williams’ vehicle and came to rest in the roadway.

Williams was not impaired by alcohol or drugs, police said, and Mr. Pittman was crossing against oncoming traffic. No criminal charges are expected.
