ST. PETERSBURG – A man died this morning (Dec. 20) of injuries he received in a traffic crash Saturday (Dec. 17), according to the St. Petersburg Police Department.

Thomas Kenneth Vaughan, 55, died at 5:03 a.m. at Bayfront Health St. Petersburg where he was taken after the crash.

Joseph Kenneth Deegan, 45, of 5363 Tallapoosa Road in Tallahassee, had been charged with one count of driving under the influence/causing serious bodily injury, police said. It is unclear if the charges have been changed.

The crash happened about 6:12 p.m. on Fifth Avenue and 29th Street N. Police said a 2003 Lincoln Aviator driven by Deegan was eastbound in the 3000 block of 5th Avenue N approaching 29th Street. A pedestrian was crossing 5th Avenue and, for an unknown reason, police said, Deegan did not see the pedestrian in the roadway and struck him. Deegan was evaluated and found to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage, officers said.
