He was walking along the shoulder of the road, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A 13-year-old boy died this morning (May 6) when he was hit by a pickup truck that fled the scene, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Jesus Navarro, 13, of Dover, died at the scene.

The crash happened about 7 a.m. on State Road 574 (Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard) near Mott Road. Troopers said a Ford F250 was being driven east on SR 574 when it entered the westbound lane and hit Jesus, who was walking east along the north shoulder toward Mott Road. The Ford fled the scene on westbound SR 574.

Investigators, based upon video evidence, said they believe that the suspect vehicle is an extended cab model of the F250 and is either dark blue or black in color. Based upon other evidence found at the scene, troopers said they believe the vehicle model and year is between 2011-2016 Ford F250 XL Super Duty pickup truck.
