Pedestrian Dies after Hillsborough Crash

The man walked into the path of a motorcycle, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A Tampa man died Monday (Feb. 6) of injuries he received when hit by a motorcycle, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Kevin Mathenge, 28, of Tampa, died at Tampa General Hospital where he was taken after the crash. The motorcycle driver, Larry Richard Gregory, 46, of Temple Terrace received minor injuries but was not taken to a hospital, the FHP said.

The crash happened about 4:30 p.m. on N 56th Street south of Neal Drive. Troopers said Mr. Mathenge was attempting to cross 56th south of Neal Drive and walked into the path of the 2009 Kawasaki motorcycle Gregory was driving. The motorcycle overturned after the crash and Gregory, who was wearing a helmet, was thrown off. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash and no charges have been filed, troopers said.
