She stepped into the path of an oncoming car, Pinellas deputies said.

DUNEDIN – A Canadian died Wednesday (March 6) when she was hit by a car after she stepped into its path on Bayshore Boulevard, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.

Valarie Elberg, 75, of Estevan, Saskatchewan, Canada, died at the scene. No one else was injured in the crash.

The crash happened about 7:21 p.m. at the intersection of Bayshore Boulevard and Cedar Street in Dunedin.

Deputies said Ms. Elberg was standing on the curb, waiting to cross Bayshore Boulevard from west to east, not in a crosswalk, when she stepped off the curb and was struck by a 1998 Toyota Camry.

Impairment and speed do not appear to be factors in the crash.
