Pedestrian Dies After Crash in Weeki Wachee Parking Lot

The driver did not see the pedestrian, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

WEEKI WACHEE – A Weeki Wachee woman died Tuesday (Nov. 28) of injuries she received when she was hit while walking in a Winn Dixie parking lot, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Maria Resendes Pavao, 67, of Weeki Wachee, died at Bayonet Point Hospital where she was taken after the crash.

The crash happened about 10 a.m. in the parking lot of the Winn Dixie at 6270 Commercial Way in Weeki Wachee. Troopers said Ms. Pavao was walking westbound in a crosswalk in the parking lot. She was hit by a 2016 Ford Escape driven by Mary E. Zemcik, 83, of Weeki Wachee. Troopers said Zemcik had turned right in the lot and had failed to see Ms. Pavao.
