One Pedestrian Dead, Two Injured in Hit-and-Run Crash

Plant City police are asking the public’s help in finding the driver.

PLANT CITY – A Plant City man died Sunday (Dec. 2) when he was walking on State Road 574, the Plant City Police Department said.

Miquel A. Hernandez Jr., 21 of Plant City, died at the scene. Police said two other men, ages 20 and 21, from Dover, who were walking with Mr. Hernandez were also injured. They were taken to a hospital for treatment of their injuries.

The crash happened about 10:55 p.m. on SR 574 just east of the Fuego Bar & Grille, 4103 W Hwy 574 in Plant City.

POlice said Mr. Hernandez and the other two men were walking eastbound on SR 574 after leaving the Fuego Bar & Grille. At this time, it is unclear as to whether the trio was walking on the roadway shoulder or on the sidewalk.

As the men were walking, they were struck by a vehicle traveling east on SR 574. After striking the men, the vehicle failed to stop and continued eastbound on SR 574 away from the crash scene, without stopping to render aid or assistance, officers said.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the suspected vehicle is possibly a General Motors SUV, in the 2007 – 2014 model year range. The vehicle model may possibly be a Cadillac Escalade SUV, a Chevrolet Tahoe or a GMC Yukon. The color of the suspect vehicle is pearl white metallic. The damaged areas would include the headlights, amber colored turn signal lens, and rear view mirrors. There is no other vehicle information is available at this time.
