Pedestrian Critically Injured in Fourth Street Crash

The pedestrian had been drinking, St. Petersburg police said. The driver had not.

ST. PETERSBURG – A pedestrian who had been drinking suffered life-threatening injuries when he was hit while crossing Fourth Street S, the St. Petersburg Police Department said.

The identity of the injured man was not immediately available. He was taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg with life-threatening injuries.

The crash happened about 2:27 a.m. Sunday (March 17) in the 200 block of Fourth Street S in St. Petersburg.

Police said the man was hit by a 2009 Chevrolet Impala when he ran across the street into the car’s path.

Blood tests at the hospital indicated that the pedestrian had alcohol in his system. Police said the driver, who was evaluated for any potential impairment at the scene, had not been drinking.
