Neither he nor the driver was wearing a seat belt, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A Plant City man died Sunday (Feb. 11) when he was thrown from a pickup truck in one-vehicle crash on I-4, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Steven Darrell Driggers, 34, of Plant City, died at the scene. The driver, Seth Danis David, 33, of Valrico, was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital with minor injuries. Neither was wearing a seat belt.

The crash happened about 7:45 p.m. on I-4 east of Mango Road in Hillsborough County.

David was driving a 2007 Ford F150 west on I-4 in the outside lane. He was trying to change to the center lane when he saw another vehicle in the lane. He over corrected while avoiding a crash and lost control of the pickup.

As a result, troopers said, the pickup spun and traveled to the outside shoulder of the road where it overturned multiple times and collided first with a fence on the north side of the shoulder then with a light pole in the Gator Ford parking lot before coming to a final rest.

Mr. Driggers was thrown from the truck during the crash.
