Passenger Dead, Driver Serious After U.S. 301 Crash

The crash was alcohol-related, FHP troopers say.

PASCO COUNTY – A Zephyrhills man died of injuries he suffered in a single-vehicle crash this morning (Sept. 8) on U.S. 301, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Derrick Winton Allen Beers, 23, of Zephyrhills, died at St. Joseph’s Hospital where he was taken after the crash. He was a passenger in the pickup truck that crashed.

The driver, Alexander Delaney Hiscock, 25, also of Zephyrhills, was taken to Tampa General Hospital with serious injuries. FHP troopers said he had been drinking.

The crash happened about 4:15 a.m. on U.S. 301 south of State Road 56 in Pasco County.

Troopers said Hiscock was driving a 1998 Chevrolet 1500 north on U.S. 301 when he lost control of the pickup truck. The truck left the roadway and traveled onto the east grass shoulder. Hiscock over-corrected back across the highway and entered the southbound lane..

Hiscock again over-corrected, troopers said. The truck traveled back across the highway and onto the east shoulder where it collided with the tree line.

Charges are pending, troopers said.
