PASCO COUNTY – A Zephyrhills man died Friday (Sept. 2) in a two-vehicle collision when he was thrown from the SUV in which he was riding, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Douglas Wayne Sabine, 57, of Zephyrhills, died at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt, troopers said. Cynthia Jeanne Bauer, 54, the driver of the SUV in which Mr. Sabine was a passenger, was taken to Florida Hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the other vehicle, Nadim Gaffar Khan, 46, of Lutz, was also taken to Florida Hospital. His condition was listed as critical. Both Bauer and Khan were wearing seat belts.

The crash happened about 2:27 p.m. on Eiland Boulevard at Old Geiger Road, troopers said. Bauer, of Brooksville, was driving a 2001 Ford SUV west on Eiland when she lost control of the vehicle. The Ford crossed the centerline and collided with a 2010 Mercedes driven by Khan, which was traveling east on Eiland. Mr. Sabine was thrown from the SUV and died at the scene.

Friends said Khan, a cardiologist at Florida Medical Clinic, was on his way to see a patient.
