Pinellas deputies said impairment may be a factor in the crash.

DUNEDIN – Two drivers were injured Sunday (May 19) in a four-vehicle crash in Dunedin, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said.

Frank Norcia III, 54, of Odessa, was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. Another driver,  Dawn Lopez, 58, of Palm Harbor, was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The other two drivers were not injured.

The crash happened about 1:44 p.m. at the intersection of Main Street and Patricia Avenue in Dunedin.

Norcia was driving his 1995 Toyota Tercel eastbound on Main Street in the median lane, approaching the traffic light at Patricia Avenue in Dunedin. Lopez was driving a 2014 Nissan Versa that was stopped in front of Norcia on Main Street at Patricia Avenue.

As the traffic light turned green, Lopez started to go east on Main Street. Deputies said Norcia failed to see the slower traffic in front of him and crashed into the rear of Lopez’s Nissan.

The collision caused a chain reaction that sent Lopez’s Nissan crashing into the rear end of a 2014 Toyota Corolla. Norcia’s Toyota veered into the adjacent curb lane and crashed into a 2002 Ford Escape.

Investigators say impairment may be a factor in the crash.
