PASCO COUNTY – A New Port Richey man died this morning (Dec. 7) when he rear-ended a dump truck on U.S. 19, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Xavier Deshawn Brown, 23, of New Port Richey, died at the scene. Troopers said he was not wearing a seat belt. It is unknown if alcohol was a factor in the crash.

The crash happened about 6:04 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. 19 and Sunray Drive in Pasco County.

Troopers said Mr. Brown was driving a 2012 Kia Forte north in the outside lane of U.S. 19 N. A 1997 Ford dump truck was in the lane, just beginning to pull off after the light changed from red to green. Mr. Brown failed to slow for traffic and the Kia collided with the rear of the truck.
