The motorcycle driver and his passenger were taken to area hospitals with serious injuries.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A motorcycle driver and his passenger received serious injuries Sunday (Nov. 27) in a traffic crash, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Randell Leroy Coopshaw. 53, of Tampa, was taken to Tampa General Hospital. His passenger, Theresa Mary Lindsey, 58, of Plant City, was taken to Lakeland Regional Hospital. Neither was wearing a helmet and both were seriously injured, the FHP said. The driver of the other vehicle, Kimberly Reilly Ramos, 48, of Wildwood, received minor injuries but was not taken to a hospital. Her passenger, also from Wildwood, was not hurt.

Coopshaw was cited for improper passing, troopers said.

The crash happened about 2:45 p.m. on U.S. 92 west of Tanner Road. Coopshaw was driving a 2007 Honda motorcycle westbound on U.S. 92 behind a 2010 Volkswagen driven by Ramos. Troopers said Coopshaw attempted to pass the Volkswagen, which was slowing to turn into Family Rentals and Storage, and hit the car.
