A car turned into the path of the motorcyclist, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A University of South Florida student riding a motorcycle was killed in a traffic crash Friday (June 23) morning, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said.

Andres Alfredo Castillo, 22, of Tampa, died at the scene. The other driver, Shavarra Cobb, 34, also of Tampa, was not injured.

The crash happened about 10:19 a.m. on Fletcher Avenue at 50th Street N. Cobb was driving a 2008 Hyundai Elantra west on Fletcher when she made a left turn into the path of the 2006 Kawasaki Ninja 636 that Mr. Castillo was riding east on Fletcher, according to deputies.

Mr. Castillo braked and laid the motorcycle on its side. The bike struck the right rear of the Hyundai, then slid on the ground, spinning as it continued east. Deputies said it came to a final rest on the south fog line of Fletcher Avenue E.

Cobb pulled onto 50th Street N and ran back to the scene as sheriff’s Community Services Officer Christopher White drove up on the scene. White radioed for help.
