Motorcyclist, Pedestrian Die in U.S. 19 Crash in New Port Richey

Speed does not appear to be a factor, according to the New Port Richey Police Department. It is unknown if alcohol or drugs may have contributed to the crash.

NEW PORT RICHEY – A St. Petersburg motorcyclist and a pedestrian died Saturday (June 16) in a traffic crash on U.S. 19, the New Port Richey Police Department said.

The names of the deceased were not released, pending identification of the pedestrian and notification of next of kin. They both died at the scene.

The crash happened about 10:30 p.m. on U.S. 19 at Palmetto Road in New Port Richey.

Officers said a 41-year-old man from St. Petersburg was driving a 2012 Honda motorcycle north on U.S. 19 in the center lane approaching Palmetto Road. An aged man was crossing 19 from west to east and not in a designated crosswalk at Palmetto.

The pedestrian crossed the northbound lanes in front of the motorcycle, which hit the pedestrian.

Speed does not appear to be a factor, police said. It is unknown at this time if alcohol or drugs may have contributed to the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
