An FHP trooper witnessed the crash and stayed with the injured motorcyclist until paramedics arrived.

PINELLAS PARK – A motorcyclist was severely injured Wednesday (Jan. 16) in a hit-and-run crash on Park Boulevard, the Pinellas Park Police Department said.

Brandon Anthony Niles, 31, of St.Petersburg, is in serious condition at a hospital. Police said he lost both legs in the crash. A Florida Highway Patrol trooper witnessed the crash and rendered aid to the downed biker while waiting for emergency first responders.

Jah-Vez Tierre Deon Hill-Holmes, 20, of St. Petersburg, the other driver, was arrested and charged with one count each of Leaving the Scene of a Crash Involving Serious Bodily Injury and Driving with a License Suspended or Revoked Causing Serious Bodily Injury. He was also charged with Violation of Parole on charges of Grand Theft and Uttering Forged Bills.

The crash happened about 10:30 p.m. on westbound Park Boulevard at 40th Street N in Pinellas Park.

Police said Niles was driving a 2008 Honda motorcycle west in the median lane on Park. Hill-Holmes was driving a 2003 Mitsubishi Galant west on Park in the curb lane, which functions as an exit ramp from southbound U.S. 19).

As the Galant reached the intersection of 40th Street, it tried to turn left from the curb lane across all lanes of westbound travel into the Applebee’s parking lot at 4000 Park Blvd. Officers said the Galant violated the right of way of the motorcycle, which resulted in the motorcycle striking the rear bumper of the Galant.

Niles was thrown from the from the motorcycle during the crash.

Hill-Holmes fled the scene in the Galant. Police said he later returned to the scene and admitted both the crash and fleeing the scene.
