Neither speed nor alcohol appear to have been a factor in the crash, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said.

SEMINOLE – A motorcyclist was seriously injured in a wrong-way crash Sunday (April 1) night in Seminole, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said.

Robert Edward Schuster, 47, of St. Petersburg, was taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg with serious injuries to his lower extremities. The other driver, Ellen Carol Smith, 75, of Seminole, was not injured.

The crash happened about 8:14 p.m. on Ridge Road just north of Park Boulevard. Deputies said Smith was driving her 2006 Chevrolet Equinox west on Park when she turned north onto Ridge.

Deputies said Smith made an error while making the north turn  by traveling briefly in the southbound turn lane on Ridge instead of the northbound lane. Shuster was riding a 2009 Harley Davidson motorcycle in the southbound lane on Ridge when Smith made the turn. The two vehicles collided.

Neither speed nor impairment appear to have been a factor in the crash, deputies said.
