The motorcyclist ran a red light, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.

PINELLAS PARK – A motorcyclist was seriously injured Sunday (Sept. 9) after he was thrown from his bike in a crash with a deputy, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said.

Dannie Tran of St. Petersburg was taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. Pinellas sheriff’s Deputy Dominic Brissett , 32, and his K-9, Cairo, were not injured.

The crash happened about 7:11 p.m. at the intersection of 66th Street N and 70th Avenue in Pinellas Park.

Tran was driving his 2008 Harley Davidson west on 70th Avenue North, approaching 66th Street N. Brissett was stopped at the red light on 66th Street N at 70th waiting for the green light so he could continue driving north.

When the light turned green, Brissett, who was driving a 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe belonging to the Sheriff’s Office, started driving. Deputies said Tran failed to stop for the red light at 66th Street North and crashed
into the front passenger side of Brissett’s cruiser. The impact caused Tran to be thrown from the motorcycle.

Deputies said impairment does not appear to be a factor in the crash.
