Motorcyclist Dies in U.S. 19 Crash

She was thrown from her motorcycle, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

PINELLAS COUNTY – A New Port Richey woman died Sunday (April 8) when she was thrown from her motorcycle during a traffic crash on U.S. 19 N, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Kathleen Ritz, 57, of New Port Richey, died at the scene. She was not wearing a helmet.

The crash happened about 9:03 p.m. Sunday on U.S. 19 N at Alderman Road in Pinellas County. Troopers said Christine Hughes, 48, of Palm Harbor, was stopped at a green traffic signal in a 2016 Mercedes E350 in the northbound inside lane of U.S. 19. Ms. Ritz, who was riding a 2017 Harley Davidson XL12200T, failed to stop and collided with the rear of the Mercedes.

Ms. Ritz was thrown from her bike and landed in the center lane where she was hit by a 2017 Hyundai Elantra driven by Patrick Sutton, 49, of Tarpon Springs.
