He ran his motorcycle into the rear of a car, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.

TREASURE ISLAND – A motorcyclist died Monday (Nov. 13) when he was thrown from his bike during a crash on Gulf Boulevard, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said.

Gary F. Orsley, 50, of Largo, died at the scene. He was wearing a helmet. The other driver was not injured.

The crash happened about 8:38 a.m. in the southbound median lane of Gulf Boulevard approaching the intersection of 104th Avenue in Treasure Island.

Deputies said a 2005 Honda Civic driven by Jim Uppendahl, 67, of North Port, was stopping for another vehicle that was also in the southbound median lane of Gulf Boulevard, when Mr. Orlsey ran his 2004 Yamaha motorcycle into the rear of the Honda.

It is unclear, deputies said, why Mr. Orsley hit the Honda. Speed was not a factor. Investigators are trying to determine if impairment and or distracted driving may have contributed to the crash.
