SEMINOLE – A motorcyclist died Thursday (Jan. 19) in a collision that also sent an SUV crashing into a nearby home, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said.

Brandon M. Barody, 22, of Largo, died at the scene. Laura Scanlan, 60, the SUV driver, was trapped in her vehicle and had to be extricated. She was taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg for non-life-threatening injuries, deputies said.

The crash happened about noon. The initial crash was in front of the Seminole Post Office, 9355 113th St. N. The SUV crashed into a fence, travel trailer at 11276 Freedom Court and a home at 11280 Freedom Court. No one was home at the time of the crash.

Mr. Barody was driving a 2008 Kawasaki motorcycle north on 113th Street approaching the Post Office. Deputies said Scanlon was turning a 2015 Honda Pilot into the Post Office from southbound 113th when she traveled into the path of the motorcycle, deputies said. The motorcycle struck the passenger side of the Honda, throwing Mr. Barody from the bike.

Immediately following the crash, deputies said, the Honda accelerated in a northeast direction and crashed into a privacy fence and a travel trailer in the backyard of a residence located at 11276 Freedom Court, causing extensive property damage. The Honda continued accelerating in a northeast direction and crashed into the south side of a residence located at 11280 Freedom Court.

Deputies said witnesses told them that Mr. Barody was driving his motorcycle at a high rate of speed just before the crash. Scanlon showed no signs of impairment.
