UPDATE: Motorcyclist Dies in Pinellas Park Crash
The motorcyclist was seen driving recklessly and speeding before the crash, Pinellas Park police said.
PINELLAS PARK – A St. Petersburg man died in a traffic crash Friday (Oct. 14), according to the Pinellas Park Police Department.
Lewis Reed, 28, of St. Petersburg died at the scene. Shakira Rouse, 16, also of St. Petersburg, a passenger in the other vehicle was taken to All Childrern’s Hospital with minor injuries, police said. The driver of the car involved was not injured.
The crash happened about 9 p.m. in the southbound lanes of the 8500 block of U.S. 19 N. Police said Mr. Reed was seen driving a 2016 Yamaha motorcycle driving south on U.S. 19. Several witnesses said he was driving recklessly, pulling wheelies, traveling at a speed well over 100 mph as well as changing lanes rapidly. At the time of the crash, police said the motorcycle was driving on the shoulder lane marker after passing several vehicles at a high speed. It struck the passenger rear side of a 2009 Nissan Altima that was driven by Osivette Brito, 41, of St. Petersburg. Brito was completing a U-turn to go south on U.S. 19.
Mr. Reed was thrown from the motorcycle and traveled a distance from the motorcycle, officers said. The Nissan was pushed over into the median lane. It came to rest in the curb lane.
Brito had a suspended NY license that he told police he was unaware of. Because the crash involved a death and Brito’s license was suspended, police said they contacted Pinellas County State Attorney’s office to determine if charges would be filed. Police said there are no criminal charges at this time, but citations are pending.
