The side mirror of a car hit him, FHP troopers said.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A Tampa motorcyclist died Friday (April 12) night in a crash on I-275, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Joshua Omar Santiago, 43, of Tampa, died at the scene. Troopers said he was not wearing a helmet. The other driver was not injured.

The crash happened about 10:44 p.m. on northbound I-275 at the exit lane for State Road 580 in Hillsborough County.

Troopers said Elisha M. Cruz, 27, of Tampa, was driving a 2005 Toyota Camry north on I-275 in the outside lane. Mr. Santiago was driving a 2002 motorcycle behind the Toyota.

Mr. Santiago changed lanes into the exit lane for SR 580.  After the motorcycle entered the exit lane, the Toyota also tried to enter the exit lane. As the Toyota moved into the exit lane, the side mirror hit the motorcycle, troopers said.

After the impact, troopers said, the motorcycle motorcycle traveled to the outside shoulder where it hit a guardrail.

Charges are pending, troopers said.
