Motorcyclist Dies in Hillsborough Crash

The motorcyclist was thrown from his bike and landed in the path of a marked Pinellas County Sheriff’s patrol car, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A Tampa motorcyclist died late Wednesday (Nov. 16) after he was thrown from his motorcycle and into the path of an oncoming car, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Joel Matthew Shubert, 38, of Tampa, died at the scene.

The crash happened about 11:37 p.m. at milepost 44 on I-275 in Hillsborough County, the FHP said. Mr. Shubert was riding a 2001 Suzuki GSX600F southbound on the interstate when he lost control of the motorcycle and collided with the center concrete barrier wall.

He was thrown from the motorcycle, across the barrier wall and landed in the northbound inside lane of the interstate in the path of an oncoming 2007 Chevrolet Impala driven by Jane Hanna, 26, of Largo. The Impala was a marked patrol car belonging to the Pinellas County Sheriff, troopers said. The Chevrolet hit Mr. Shubert.

No charges have been filed, troopers said.
