The motorcyclist died when he was thrown from his motorcycle after it overturned twice, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

HERNANDO COUNTY – A North Carolina man died Wednesday (May 25) when he was thrown from his motorcycle after it overturned, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Randy Dale Gainey, 58, of Sherrills Ford, NC, died at the scene, according to troopers. He was not wearing a helmet.

The FHP says the accident happened about 9:50 p.m. on Shoal Line Boulevard near Erin Road. Troopers said Mr. Gainey was driving his 2003 American motorcycle east on Shoal Line when he failed to negotiate a curve. Mr. Gainey braked as the motorcycle traveled east across the paved apron toward Erin Road. The motorcycle overturned onto the grass shoulder and collided with a street sign. Troopers said the motorcycle continued across the sidewalk and overturned again, ejecting Mr. Gainey. Troopers said it is unclear why he failed to negotiate the curve.
