Motorcyclist Dies in Gandy Boulevard Crash

ST. PETERSBURG – A motorcyclist died in a crash that happened Saturday (June 23), the St. Petersburg Police Department said.

Michael P. Majchrowski, 48, died at the scene. He was wearing a helmet.

The crash happened shortly before midnight at the intersection of Gandy Boulevard and Fourth Street N in St. Petersburg.

Mr. Majchrowski was driving a 2016 BMW motorcycle eastbound on Gandy. Police said he slowed for the red light at Fourth Street. As the motorcycle approached the red light, the traffic signal changed to green and Mr. Majchrowski proceeded without stopping.

A 2014 Chevrolet Cruze, driven by Dylan Charles Baron, 22, was southbound on Fourth. Police said Baron, who had been consuming alcohol, fell asleep while he was driving and ran the red light at Gandy. The Chevrolet Cruze hit the motorcycle.

The crash is still under investigation.
