Motorcyclist Dies in Florida Avenue Crash

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A Plant City man died Saturday (June 2) when he was thrown from his motorcycle during a traffic crash on Florida Avenue, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Samuel A. Lougheed, 23, of Plant City, died at the scene. The other driver was not injured. He was wearing a helmet.

The crash happened about 9:10 a.m. at the intersection of Florida Avenue and 131st Avenue in Hillsborough County.

Mr. Lougheed was riding a 2016 Yamaha north on Florida at a high rate of speed, troopers said. A 1999 Ford pickup truck driven by Darlene D. Hamilton, 62, of Tampa, was headed south on Florida.

The Ford turned left onto 131st into the path of the Yamaha, troopers said. The force of the collision caused Mr. Lougheed to be thrown from the motorcycle, which overturned into a water-filled ditch.
