Motorcyclist Dies in Fiery SR 60 Crash

The motorcycle and a van collided at an intersection, FHP troopers said.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A Fort Meade man died Saturday (Dec. 1) in a crash on State Road 60, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Ronald C. Sampson, 27. of Fort Meade, is being withheld until his next of kin are notified. He died at the scene.

The crash happened about 7:29 p.m. at the intersection of SR 60 and Horton Road in Hillsborough County.

Troopers said Mr. Sampson was driving a 2007 Yamaha YZFR6  west on SR 60 in the inside lane “at a high rate of speed.” Timothy Wilbert Bowser, 51, of Lakeland, who was driving a 2018 Ram van, was turning left from southbound Horton onto eastbound SR 60.

The van entered the path of the motorcycle and the two collided. After the crash, troopers said, the motorcycle caught fire.
