Motorcyclist Dies after Crash in St. Petersburg

Neither driver was impaired, St. Petersburg police said.

ST. PETERSBURG – A motorcyclist died Tuesday (Jan. 17) from injuries received in a collision, St. Petersburg police said.

Anthony Richard Farmer, 21, was taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg where he was pronounced dead. Police said no impairment suspected for either driver and no charges are pending.

The crash happened about 12:24 p.m. at the intersection of 34th Street and Fifth Avenue N. Mr. Farmer was driving a motorcycle northbound on 34th Street. He was exceeding the posted 35 mph speed limit and was making aggressive lane changes between vehicles on the roadway, officers said.

He did not slow down when the light turned red as he approached the intersection at 5th Avenue. Police said he went through the red light and into the side of a Toyota sedan, driven by Diane Lori Stegman, 60. The Toyota had been southbound on 34th Street and was making a U-turn back onto 34th Street’s northbound lanes at the time of the impact.
