Motorcyclist Critical after St. Petersburg Crash

A car turned into the motorcycle’s path, according to the St. Petersburg Police Department.

ST. PETERSBURG – A motorcyclist was thrown from his bike and critically injured in early morning crash today (Aug,. 26), the St. Petersburg Police Department said.

The 25-year-old motorcyclist was taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg with life-threatening injuries. His name has not been released because his next of kin have not been notified.

Caitlynn Madsen, 22, the other driver, was also taken to Bayfront. She had minor injuries. Khristian Sweeney, 26, was treated at the scene.

The crash happened about 12:41 a.m. at Central Avenue and 45th Street. Police said Madsen was driving a Volkswagen Jetta north on 45th. She had stopped for the stop sign at Central then began to make a left turn onto Central. She drove into the path of a Yamaha FZ6 motorcycle, which hit the rear driver side of the Volkswagen.

The man was thrown from his motorcycle by the impact and came to rest in the roadway. Both drivers were found to have signs of alcohol impairment, police said. Criminal charges are pending the results of blood tests.
