Investigators said they believe speed was a factor in the crash, which temporarily closed a section of 70th Avenue N.

PINELLAS PARK – A woman motorcycle passenger was seriously injured Saturday (April 28) during a traffic crash, the Pinellas Park Police Department said.

Hieu Bui, 43, of St. Petersburg, was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. Her condition remained unchanged Monday (April 30), police said.

Investigators said they learned the 2014 Honda CB1100 motorcycle, which was driven by  John Yates Adams II, 54, of Pinellas Park, was headed west on 70th Avenue in the 5600 block. The other vehicle, a 1989 GMC pickup truck, driven by Dawson Jay Adams, 19, of Pinellas Park, was also traveling west approaching the motorcycle from behind.

Both vehicles were in the same lane when the truck hit the motorcycle. Police said the motorcycle became lodged, standing upright in the front grill of the truck. The motorcycle and truck skidded to a stop in the curb lane with the motorcycle still attached.

Bui, who was the rear passenger on the motorcycle, was thrown off the bike. She was dragged underneath the truck, police said.

Investigators said they believe speed to be a factor in the crash.

Both directions of 70th Avenue N were temporarily shut down in the area of the crash.
