PASCO – Two motorcycle riders died Saturday (Oct. 14) in a crash on State Road 54, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the driver was 50-year-old Steven W. Gerena from Brandon. His passenger was 53-year-old Trudy L. Gerena, also from Brandon. Neither was wearing a helmet. Both died at the scene.

Dimitri Tagaropoulos, 27, of Holiday, the driver of the car involved in the crash, was taken to North Pinellas Hospital with serious injuries.

The crash happened about 5:28 p.m. at the intersection of State Road 54 and Mitchell Ranch Road. Troopers said Mr. Gerena was driving a 2015 Honda east on SR 54 approaching the Mitchell Ranch intersection when he lost control of the bike while negotiating a left turn in the road.

The Honda traveled onto Mitchell Ranch and collided with the driver’s side of the 2015 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Tagaropoulos, which was stopped at the sign on Mitchell Ranch.
