Impairment appears to have been a factor in the crash, Pinellas deputies said.

GULFPORT – A Gulfport man was injured this morning (March 14) when he crashed his motor scooter on 54th Street S in Gulfport, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said.

Scott W. Houck, 46, of Gulfport, was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. He was not wearing a helmet, deputies said. Impairment appears to have been a factor in the crash.

The crash happened about 2:17 a.m. at 1711 54th Street S in Gulfport.

Houck was driving his 2015 KYMCO motor scooter northbound on 54th Street S when, it appears, he left the roadway and struck a mailbox, according to deputies.

A resident heard the crash and called 911.
