Motor Scooter Driver Critical After St. Pete Crash

He failed to yield to oncoming traffic, according to the St. Petersburg Police Department.

ST. PETERSBURG – A motor scooter driver has died from injuries he suffered in a crash on 16th Street N, the St. Petersburg Police Department said.

Michael Cardinal, 51, was taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg where he died this morning (June 12). He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The crash happened about 5:05 p.m. Monday (June 11) at the intersection of 16th Street and 36th Avenue N. Officers said Mr. Cardinal  had stopped his 2017 Zhongneng motor scooter at the stop sign on 36th Avenue. Mr. Cardinal traveled forward from the stop sign and failed to yield to the northbound 2016 Hyundai Elantra driven by Terry Joiner, 61.
