HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A moped driver was critically injured this morning (July 5) in a traffic crash, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Narciso Joseph Medina, 28, of Brandon, was taken to Tampa General Hospital in critical condition. He was not wearing a helmet.

The other driver, Johnie Neil Odell, Jr., 50, of Ruskin, was not injured, however troopers said they cited him for a violation of right of way.

The crash happened about 8 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. 41 and Fourth Street SW in Hillsborough County. Odell, who was headed north on Fourth Street, had stopped the 2007 Nissan Titan he was driving at a stop sign at the intersection of Fourth Street and U.S. 41.

Odell entered the intersection and drove into the path of the 2018 Suzuki moped that Medina was driving south on U.S. 41. The moped collided with the right rear of the Nissan.
