The boy ran into traffic, Hillsborough deputies said.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – An 11-year-old boy died Thursday (Nov. 16) of injuries he received when struck by a car when he ran into traffic, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said.

Brandon Heard Jr., 11, died at Tampa General Hospital where he was taken after the crash. He was a student at Mann Middle School. Deputies said he had taken the school bus to the area where he was hit but had not just gotten off the bus before the crash.

The crash happened about 4:45 p.m. on Orient Road just north of 29th Street. Deputies said Sabrina Ann Buster, 47, was driving her 2006 Hyundai Sonata southbound on Orient. Traffic facing northbound on Orient was stopped because of congestion.

Brandon  ran across Orient Road westbound, through the stopped northbound traffic, into the path of the oncoming southbound traffic, deputies said. Buster swerved to the right to avoid Brandon but he was struck by the left front of her car.
