FHP troopers said he had been drinking.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A Brandon man died early this morning (Nov. 19) of injuries he received when he was hit by two vehicles after he stepped out of a moving Uber into traffic on I-75, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Sheng Hui Lin, 28, of Brandon, died at Tampa General Hospital where he was taken after the crash.

The crash happened about 2 a.m. on southbound I-75 near the exit to I-4.

Troopers said an Uber driver was called about 1: 44 a.m. to pick up an intoxicated man at a Brooksville restaurant. The drunken man, Mr Lin, was put in the Uber by two men. The Uber started a trip to the man’s home in Brandon.

As the Uber was southbound on I-75, Mr. Lin became agitated. Troopers said the Uber driver tried to stop on the outside shoulder of the interstate, but before the Uber came to a complete stop on the shoulder, Mr. Lin got out of the vehicle into the adjacent travel lane.

Mr. Lin was hit by a 2015 Nissan Versa driven by Kayla M. Montgomery, 20, of Tampa, and a 2017 Nissan SUV driven by Alan Weeks, 55, of Land O’ Lakes.

No charges are pending.
