Howard Frankland Bridge | Tampa Bay | TB Reporter

He was not injured, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

TAMPA BAY – A Bartow man jumped from the Howard Frankland Bridge on Sunday (April 15) to avoid a truck fire, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Troopers said Adirut Promdi, 41, of Bartow, was driving south on the Howard Frankland about 5:30 p.m. when the 2005 Toyota Tacoma he was driving experienced a mechanical failure and caught fire.

Promdi successfully drove to a controlled stop on the roadway shoulder near the hump, got out of the pickup truck and, fearing for his safety, leaped into Tampa Bay.

Promdi remained near the base of the bridge until Tampa Fire Rescue picked him up. He was not injured.
