Man Dies, 4 Year Old Injured in Jet Ski Crash

The jet ski collided with a boat, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

CLEARWATER BEACH – The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is investigating fatal jet ski crash near Clearwater Beach.

Information is limited, but FWC officials said the operator of the jet ski was Craig Butz, 52, of Altamonte Springs, and his daughter, Teagan Butz, 4. Teagan was a passenger on the jet ski. Mr. Butz was taken to Morton Plant Hospital after the crash, where he died. Teagan suffered serious injuries and was flown to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg. She is listed in critical condition.

The crash involved a jet ski and a center console boat operated by Thomas Carey, 67, of Clearwater. It happened about 4:48 p.m. Saturday (Sept. 23) in the waters near Bay Esplanade near Clearwater Beach.

The investigation is ongoing.
