Largo Motorcyclist Dies in Fall from I-275 Overpass

He was thrown from the motorcycle after losing control, FHP troopers said.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A Largo man died early this morning (Feb. 21) when he was thrown off his motorcycle and fell off an overpass on I-275, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Verlon John McDonald, 51, of Largo, died at the scene. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash.

The crash happened about 2:50 a.m. on southbound I-275 at Lois Avenue in Hillsborough County.

Troopers said Mr. McDonald was driving a 2007 Suzuki motorcycle south on I-275 when, for unknown reasons, he lost control of the bike. The motorcycle traveled to the left shoulder of the roadway and collided with the guardrail at which point Mr. MdDonald was thrown from the bike. He was thrown off the overpass and landed on Lois Avenue.
