Jefferson Street Crash Kills Spring Hill Man

Another driver was seriously injured in the crash, FHP troopers said.

HERNANDO COUNTY – A Spring Hill man died from injuries he received Monday (Oct. 29) in a traffic crash on W Jefferson Street, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Howard George Bennett, 87, of Spring Hill, died at the Regional Medical Center at Bayonet Point where he was taken after the crash.

Stephanie Michelle Manley, 45, f Inverness, was taken to Bayonet Point in serious condition.

No one else was injured in the crash, which happened about 1:02 p.m. at the intersection of W Jefferson Street and East Avenue in Hernando County.

Mr. Bennett was driving a 2012 Kia Optima north on Veterans Avenue approaching W Jefferson. Troopers said he drove directly into the path of the 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer that Manley was driving. The Chevrolet hit the Kia.

After the impact, the Kia traveled across the intersection and collided with a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Leah Lynne Kight, 69, of Homosassa, which was stopped at the stop sign on East Avenue.
