Six Seriously Injured in Single-Vehicle Crash on I-4

The crash closed portions of westbound I-4 for several hours.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – Six people were seriously injured Saturday (April 15) evening in a traffic crash that happened when a 14 year old lost control of the SUV he was driving, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Seriously injured were the driver, Armani Santi De Jesus, 14, and his mother, Amanda Teresa Rossiter, 32, who was a passenger in the vehicle. Other passengers who were seriously injured: Louis Gabino Serrano Soto, 34, and his children, Valantina Serrano, 3; Juan Carlos Serrano, 6; and Jaharia Serrano, also 6. Another passenger, Johnathan Occide, 16, a friend of the driver, suffered minor injuries. All were from Tampa and all, except Occide, were taken to Tampa General Hospital. Occide was not taken to a hospital.

De Jesus, the driver, was charged with careless driving and driving without a license, troopers said. Additional charges are pending.

The crash happened about 7:05 p.m. near mile marker 4 on I-4. Troopers said De Jesus was driving a 2000 Ford Explorer west when he tried to change from the outside to the center lane. He saw another vehicle in the center lane and over-corrected to avoid a collision. Troopers said he lost control of the Ford and collided with the outside barrier wall. The crash closed portions of westbound I-4 for several hours.
