The driver failed to negotiate a curve, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

PINELLAS COUNTY – Two Brandon men were seriously injured Wednesday (April 24) in a single-car crash on the Bayside Bridge, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Coi Devlin Jenkins, 19, of Brandon, was taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg in serious condition. His passenger, Travis Michael Wildfong, 20, also of Brandon, was also taken to Bayfront. He was in critical condition. Wildfong was not wearing a seat belt, troopers said. The crash does not appear to be alcohol-related.

The crash happened about 8:15 p.m. at the south end of the Bayfront Bridge at 49th Street N and Roosevelt Boulevard in Pinellas County.

Troopers said Jenkins was driving a 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse south on the Bayside Bridge approaching Roosevelt Boulevard when he failed to negotiate a right curve at the south end of the bridge. The Mitsubishi rotated, entered the median and traveled across the southbound lanes until it hit trees on the shoulder of the road.
