I-75 Crash Temporarily Closes Traffic Lanes

Police Lights | Florida | TB Reporter

The driver in the single-vehicle crash lost control of her pickup truck on the wet roadway, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – Fluid leaks from a crashed pickup truck closed three lanes of I-75 for about an hour Monday (Sept. 3), the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The driver, Elizabeth Pope, 59, of Oneco, was not injured in the crash but was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital South after the crash.

The crash happened about 3:20 p.m. on I–75 near the bridge just north of Gibsonton Drive in Hillsborough County.

Troopers said Pope was driving a 2004 Ford pickup north on I-75 when she lost control of the truck on the wet road. The truck began to spin so that the rear of the truck hit the bridge rail on the inside shoulder of the road.

Momentum caused the rear tires to travel to the top of the bridge rail, which damaged both the rail and the wall. The truck continued rotating until it came to rest in the center travel lanes with fluid leaking onto the road. The outside three lanes were closed until about 4:30 p.m.
